Ahead of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to India, Canada has initiated proceedings to revoke the citizenship of Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Pakistan-born businessman accused of facilitating the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that killed 166 people. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) states the revocation is due to Rana's alleged misrepresentation of his residency during his 2000 citizenship application, not terrorism charges. Investigations found Rana claimed to have lived in Canada continuously, but he spent much of that time in Chicago. The case is now before the Federal Court, which will decide on the citizenship revocation.
