West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer has ordered First Information Reports (FIRs) against five election officials for allegedly sharing login credentials of the ER database to unauthorized individuals in August 2025. The directive targets two Electoral Registration Officers, two Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, and one data entry operator from South 24 Parganas and East Medinipur districts. This action is in response to serious lapses and violations of data security policies, with FIRs to be registered under relevant sections of the Representation of the People Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sannita, and the Information Technology Act.
