India is negotiating a proposed deal to acquire 114 Rafale fighter jets from France, with plans for around 80 percent of the aircraft to be built locally. Discussions include shifting some manufacturing facilities to India, maximizing indigenous content (estimated between 30-60 percent), and establishing a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hub to enhance serviceability. The deal, valued at approximately Rs 3.25 lakh crore, aims to address Indian Air Force squadron shortages and includes integration of Indian weapons systems, while source codes remain with France. Cost negotiations and final approvals are ongoing.
