
Rakesh Aggarwal, a 1994-batch IPS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, has been appointed Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) until his retirement on August 31, 2028. Previously serving as Special Director General and interim DG after Sadanand Date's repatriation, Aggarwal is recognized for his expertise in counter-terrorism, terror financing, and internal security. His appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet following the Home Ministry's proposal.
