The Delhi High Court has scheduled the final hearing on September 24 for former Union minister M. J. Akbar's appeal against journalist Priya Ramani's acquittal in a criminal defamation case. Akbar challenges the February 2021 trial court order that acquitted Ramani, who was accused of defaming him by alleging sexual misconduct during the 2018 MeToo movement. The trial court found no charges proved and criticized the prevalence of crimes against women. Akbar contends the court erred in its judgment and assessment of evidence.
