The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has initiated an inquiry into 139 vacant medical posts in Mumbai's civic hospitals, citing serious public health concerns. The commission noted a 27% vacancy rate in professor positions across four medical colleges, impacting patients and students. This action follows a media report and a previous lapse at Shatabdi Hospital where non-medical staff performed ECG tests. The MCGM's lack of representation in earlier hearings was also noted. Further proceedings are scheduled for January 8.
