Starting January 1, 2026, Utah will prohibit the purchase of soda with SNAP benefits, following a waiver approved by the Trump administration. This restriction applies to flavored carbonated drinks, whether sweetened with sugar or artificial sweeteners. Milk, milk substitutes, and juices with over 50% real fruit or vegetable content remain eligible. The state aims to improve public health through this measure, while the total SNAP benefit amounts for recipients will not change. Retailers have been informed and prepared for the upcoming implementation.
