India's Defence Procurement Board has approved the proposal to acquire 114 Rafale fighter jets from France's Dassault Aviation, marking a significant step to enhance the Indian Air Force's combat strength. The deal, valued at around Rs 3.25 lakh crore, will next be reviewed by the Defence Acquisition Council and then the Cabinet Committee on Security. The acquisition aims to increase squadron strength and includes plans for local manufacturing and integration of Indian weapons, while indigenous fighter projects continue independently. Finalisation is expected during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit in February 2026.
