A member of Iran's paramilitary Basij force, Ali Azizi, was killed in Harsin during ongoing nationwide protests fueled by economic stagnation and rising prices. The demonstrations, which began over the currency's sharp fall, have broadened to include political demands, with protesters chanting slogans against the government. Seven people were reportedly killed in clashes earlier in the week. In response to the economic crisis, Iran has appointed a new central bank governor.
