The Madhya Pradesh government plans to build a memorial at the Union Carbide factory site in Bhopal to honor victims of the 1984 methyl isocyanate gas leak, considered the world's worst industrial disaster. Inspired by Hiroshima and Nagasaki memorials, the project will include a museum, disaster institute, and a wall of victims' names. Estimated to cost over Rs 1,200 crore, the initiative follows recent hazardous waste disposal and will proceed with community consultation and High Court guidance.
