
Punjab's government has approved the addition of 1,279 buses to its state-run fleet, expanding the combined strength of PUNBUS and PRTC from 2,267 buses. The expansion includes 696 ordinary and 100 midi buses, with 796 procured directly and 483 inducted under the kilometre scheme for flexible deployment. New buses will meet AIS-153 safety and accessibility standards, featuring wheelchair access, GPS tracking, CCTV, and fire detection. The rollout aims to enhance last-mile connectivity across urban and rural areas, improving affordability and service reliability.
