Supreme Court Upholds Aadhaar as Identity Proof in Voter Verification Process

The court declined a plea to remove Aadhaar from the list of accepted documents, advising petitioner Ashwini Upadhyay to approach the Union Government regarding concerns about fake Aadhaar cards allegedly issued to Bangladeshis and Rohingya immigrants in border areas. The court clarified Aadhaar cannot be used as proof of citizenship and emphasized that any regulation of fraudulent Aadhaar issuance must be addressed legislatively.
