Nepal is set to hold general elections on March 5, the first since the September 2025 Gen Z-led protests that toppled Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's government. The protests began after a social media ban and escalated due to concerns over corruption and political deadlock, resulting in over 70 deaths. An interim administration led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki is overseeing the transition. Former King Gyanendra has questioned the timing of the polls, urging resolution of national issues before elections proceed. Nearly 3,500 candidates, including 391 women, are contesting 165 directly elected seats, with the remaining 110 seats filled through proportional representation.
