Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has strongly criticized the Central Government's decision to reduce import duty on New Zealand apples from 50% to 25% under a Free Trade Agreement. He stated this move betrays the Swadeshi spirit, harms the country's apple-based economy valued at nearly Rs 5,000 crore, and threatens the livelihood of lakhs of farmer families. Sandhwan urged the government to reconsider the decision to protect domestic producers.
