Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that tea estate owners opposing the distribution of land rights to tea garden workers will lose state incentives. The government passed legislation in November 2025 to grant ownership of 'labour lines' to approximately 3.33 lakh tea worker families, aiming to provide land protection after 200 years of their presence. The Chief Minister warned that non-cooperating planters, who receive annual incentives worth ₹150 crore, could face withdrawal of these benefits. Many planters reportedly express dissatisfaction with this move.
