
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the first phase of the 280-km Akkulam-Chettuva Waterway at Chilakoor Beach Park, Varkala, marking a significant step in the state's inland navigation development. The waterway, part of the 616-km Kovalam-Bekal project, will be extended to Vizhinjam International Port to enhance multi-modal logistics, boost cargo movement, and promote water-based tourism. The government allocated Rs 325 crore for Phase-1, including rehabilitation for affected families. Infrastructure improvements and tourism projects are underway, with completion expected within the planned timeline.
