The Supreme Court has deferred by two weeks a hearing on Jagtar Singh Hawara's plea to transfer from Delhi's Tihar Jail to a prison in Punjab. Hawara, convicted in the 1995 assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, argues he should be housed in his home state as no cases are pending against him in Delhi. The court had previously issued notices to the Centre and governments of Delhi, Punjab, and Chandigarh. The adjournment was due to the unavailability of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.
