Following the killing of Angel Chakma in Dehradun, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju proposed replicating Delhi's SPUNER model nationwide to enhance safety for people from the Northeast. Rijiju cited the success of Delhi Police's Special Police Unit for the North East Region (SPUNER) in reducing incidents against NE students. He suggested similar units in all states could improve complaint filing and aid-seeking, emphasizing that all Indians should feel safe across the country and that the issue extends beyond law and order to societal mentality.
