
Healthcare leaders and experts have urged the Indian government to significantly increase public healthcare spending in the Union Budget 2026-27, highlighting that current expenditure remains below the National Health Policy target of 2.5% of GDP. The Association of Healthcare Providers - India (AHPI) emphasized the need to address underinvestment, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, to improve infrastructure, workforce, and access. They also called for enhanced investments in technology, quality assurance, and hospital capacity to meet evolving healthcare demands amid a dual disease burden.
