Pro-ILP Group Launches Campaign Against Undocumented Workers in Shillong

The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) Mawlai Circle in Shillong has initiated the 'Sier Lapalang Operation' to identify and remove undocumented migrant workers from construction sites, including around 15 non-tribal labourers at the North Eastern Hill University campus. The group urged contractors to prioritize hiring local Khasi workers, citing concerns over job opportunities for locals and alleging that outsiders are preferred due to lower wages. The campaign reflects ongoing demands for implementing the Inner Line Permit system in Meghalaya to regulate non-resident employment.
