Experts Call for Judicial Reforms and New Plea Bargaining Framework to Reduce Case Backlog

At a seminar on timely justice organized by O.P. Jindal Global University and National Law University Delhi, Senior Advocate Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi highlighted India's significant case backlog, citing 4.7 to 5.5 crore pending cases, with major delays in five High Courts. He emphasized the need for radical reforms and consistent policy implementation to address vacancies and pendency. Attorney General R. Venkataramani advocated for a new national framework for plea bargaining to improve transparency and resource management, proposing a Legal Health Index and a National Institute for Criminal Justice Administration to enhance judicial efficiency.
