Shatrujeet Kapur Appointed ITBP Chief; Praveen Kumar Named BSF Director General

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved key leadership changes in India's security forces on January 14, 2026. Shatrujeet Singh Kapur, former Haryana DGP who was sent on leave amid controversy over IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar's suicide and related allegations, was appointed Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) until his retirement in October 2026. Praveen Kumar, current ITBP chief, was named Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) until September 2030. Rakesh Aggarwal was appointed Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) until July 2028.
