President Droupadi Murmu has assented to the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Bill, repealing the Atomic Energy Act of 1962 and the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010. This reform allows private companies and joint ventures to participate in building, owning, operating, and decommissioning nuclear power plants under government license. Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh stated the bill marks a historic reform, enabling clean energy growth and aligning India's nuclear policies with global standards after a six-decade stalemate.
