Congress MLA Virendra Jati in Haridwar's Jhabreda constituency cut electricity to the homes of three senior power department officials, including the chief engineer. Jati stated his action was a protest against daily unannounced power outages of five to eight hours in his area, causing public hardship and business losses. He claimed his repeated complaints to the department went unheeded. The electricity department filed a police complaint against Jati, citing safety violations and interference with government functioning due to cutting lines without a proper shutdown.
