The Punjab Congress plans to launch a statewide movement starting January 8 from Gurdaspur to protest against the alleged scrapping of the MGNREGA scheme by the BJP government. State unit chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring claims the new replacement scheme, Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), is a "black law" that removes the constitutional right to 100 days of work for the rural poor. Warring also criticized the ruling AAP government in Punjab for its alleged failure to provide MGNREGA work and for not contributing its share for the scheme.
