The Jammu and Kashmir government has seized 13,692 vehicles and registered 446 FIRs in a two-year crackdown on illegal mining, with 6,219 vehicles seized in 2024-25 and 7,473 in 2025-26 up to December. FIRs increased slightly from 212 to 234 in the same period. Districts like Kupwara, Kathua, Baramulla, Jammu, and Budgam reported the highest seizures and FIRs. Officials attribute the rise to intensified operations, stricter riverbed monitoring, and enhanced agency coordination.
