Kerala CM Inaugurates First Phase of Wayanad Township for Landslide Survivors

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the first phase of the Wayanad Model Township on March 1, 2026, handing over 178 new homes and land titles to survivors of the July 2024 Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides. The township, designed as a self-contained community with essential amenities, aims to rehabilitate 410 families displaced by the disaster. The government emphasized overcoming challenges, including denial of central aid and misinformation, to complete this major rehabilitation effort before the next monsoon.
