The Andhra Pradesh government has created two new districts, Polavaram and Markapuram, bringing the state's total to 28. Effective December 31, 2025, this administrative change aims to improve governance and service delivery. Polavaram district, with a tribal majority, will focus on rehabilitation related to the irrigation project. Markapuram district, formed from western Prakasam, aims to address drought-related issues and enhance access to welfare and development schemes for its 11.42 lakh residents.
