Kuki-Zo Community Demands Union Territory Amid Political Talks and Ceasefire Review in Manipur

Thousands from the Kuki-Zo community held rallies in Manipur's Kuki-majority districts, demanding an expedited political solution and the creation of a Union Territory with a legislature. The Kuki-Zo Council and Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, citing ethnic violence and displacement since May 2023. Meanwhile, Kuki-Zo insurgent groups and MLAs seek a written commitment from state and central governments before the 2027 assembly term ends. Officials have also warned insurgent groups against violating ceasefire terms and extortion.
