India's Navy is launching the INSV Kaundinya, a unique stitched sailing vessel, on its maiden voyage from Gujarat to Oman on December 29. This ship revives ancient Indian shipbuilding traditions, using stitched wooden planks sealed with natural resins, a technique that allowed historical maritime trade across the Indian Ocean. The project, a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, Navy, and Hodi Innovations, aims to rediscover indigenous knowledge systems and demonstrate the vessel's seaworthiness for ocean navigation.
