
Valsala Prasannakumar, former general secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee and ex-chairperson of North Paravur municipality, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on February 24, 2026, in Thiruvananthapuram. She received membership from BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar and cited the BJP-led NDA's development agenda and women empowerment initiatives as reasons for her switch. Valsala expressed willingness to contest against Opposition leader V. D. Satheesan in the upcoming elections if nominated. She had distanced herself from Congress for six years due to local leadership differences, which intensified after the 2025 local body elections.
