The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting to discuss Israel's formal recognition of Somaliland, a breakaway region. This decision, announced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as part of regional outreach, has drawn sharp criticism from Somalia and numerous other nations including Egypt, Turkey, the EU, and the Gulf Cooperation Council. These entities reaffirmed their support for Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging dialogue between Somaliland and the Federal Government of Somalia. The United States also stated it continues to recognize Somalia's territorial integrity.
