Assam Cabinet Approves Rs 30 Wage Hike for Tea Garden Workers Ahead of Elections

Ahead of the March-April assembly elections, the Assam cabinet approved a Rs 30 daily wage increase for tea garden workers, raising wages to Rs 280 in the Brahmaputra valley and Rs 258 in the Barak valley effective April 1. The last hike was Rs 18 in October 2023. The cabinet also cut the Value Added Tax on Aviation Turbine Fuel by 5%, aligning prices with Kolkata to boost aviation and tourism sectors. Additional welfare and industrial incentives were also announced.
