The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved a Rs 1,067.35 crore extension of the Ahmedabad Metro's North-South corridor from GIFT City to Shahpur. The 3.33-km project, including three elevated stations, is expected to be completed within four years and serve around 23,700 passengers daily by 2029, rising to about 58,000 by 2041. It aims to enhance connectivity between Ahmedabad and GIFT City, benefiting commuters, businesses, and educational institutions. The project is expected to generate approximately 1,000 construction jobs and 250 operational roles, with additional indirect employment opportunities. Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited, a joint venture between the central and state governments, will implement the extension, complementing the existing 68.28-km metro network serving 1.6 lakh daily riders.
