India and Israel Begin First Round of Free Trade Agreement Negotiations Ahead of Modi's Visit

India and Israel have commenced the first round of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in New Delhi from February 23 to 26, 2026, coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's state visit to Israel on February 25-26. The talks follow the signing of the Terms of Reference in November 2025 and aim to enhance bilateral trade, investment, and cooperation in goods, services, technology, and innovation. Both sides seek to reduce tariffs, ease trade barriers, and promote sectors like high-tech manufacturing, agriculture, and services. Bilateral trade stood at USD 3.62 billion in FY 2024-25, with India as Israel's second-largest Asian trading partner. Discussions also include customs procedures, intellectual property rights, and strategic cooperation in defence and technology.
