Arunachal Pradesh's Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Minister Ojing Tasing announced that pre-feasibility report (PFR) work for the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) will begin around March 20. Of 21 project-affected habitations, seven in Siang district and most in Upper Siang have consented to PFR activities, except Geku village. The project faces opposition from the Adi community over displacement and environmental concerns. The government emphasizes inclusive development, environmental safeguards, and special packages for affected communities. SUMP aims to provide hydropower, flood control, and regional development.
