The Delhi government is negotiating with Haryana to increase the capital's water supply through a water exchange project involving 30 cusecs of raw water from Haryana in return for treated water for irrigation. Delhi's current water production is 900-1,000 million gallons per day (MGD), below the 1,260 MGD demand, which rises in summer. Transmission losses from Haryana, estimated at 20%, widen this gap. The Delhi Jal Board operates nine treatment plants supplying 864 MGD, with additional extraction from wells. Efforts include repairing canals and replacing old pipelines to reduce water loss.
