The International Federation of Journalists reported 128 journalists were killed globally in 2025, with over half occurring in West Asia, particularly Gaza amid the Israel-Hamas war. The federation also documented 533 journalists imprisoned worldwide, with the Asia-Pacific region having the highest number. In India, four deaths were recorded, including journalist Mukesh Chandrakar. The IFJ condemned the persistent failure to protect journalists and called for action to end violence against them.
