The Election Commission of India has scheduled Assam's Assembly elections for April 9, to be held in a single phase across all 126 constituencies. Officials attribute this to improved infrastructure, including more buildings and bridges, and enhanced security arrangements. The state has deployed over 74,000 police personnel and requested 828 central armed police companies, with 200 already present. A special observer, retired IAS officer Manjeet Singh, has been appointed to monitor the election process. Authorities emphasize readiness to ensure smooth, intimidation-free polling amid better law and order conditions.
