The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) in Patiala has approved a proposal to drop 'Rajiv Gandhi' from its name, changing it to National Law University, Punjab. The academic council approved the change, followed by the executive council's endorsement three months ago, with the proposal now pending state government approval and legislative amendment. Congress MP Dharamvira Gandhi criticized the move as a politically motivated attempt to polarize voters ahead of Punjab Assembly elections, while university officials and some council members denied political intent. Punjab officials and the governor have yet to comment officially.
