The Rajasthan government is considering reintroducing minimum educational qualifications for candidates in Panchayati Raj and urban local body elections. Proposals suggest secondary education for Sarpanch and secondary or senior secondary for councilors. This move, requiring amendments to state acts, was previously implemented in 2015 under the Vasundhara Raje government and reversed by the Congress in 2019. Ministers state the proposal follows representations from various groups.
