Vietnam's Communist Party Holds Congress to Elect Leadership and Set Growth Plans

Vietnam's Communist Party has begun its week-long National Congress in Hanoi, where about 1,600 delegates will elect a 200-member Central Committee and a new Politburo. Party chief To Lam, 68, is expected to secure a full term as General Secretary and may also be nominated for the presidency. Lam has initiated significant reforms, including administrative downsizing and anti-corruption efforts, aiming to boost growth above 10% despite global challenges. The congress will also approve a new five-year development plan focusing on digitalization, trade expansion, and public administration reform.
