India's rural employment scheme, MGNREGS, has been revamped into the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025. The reform aims to modernize rural employment by offering more guaranteed workdays, focusing on asset creation, and improving monitoring. This shift signifies a move from a program designed to insure against labor market volatility to one emphasizing control and alignment with development priorities, with women comprising over 58% of beneficiaries in FY24-25.
