The Tamil Nadu government has designated the proposed Parandur greenfield airport as a 'Special Project' under the Tamil Nadu Land Consolidation (for Special Projects) Act, 2023, to expedite land acquisition and approvals. The project requires 5,746 acres, with 1,700 acres acquired so far. Environmental concerns about water bodies in the area have been raised, prompting a hydrological assessment. A five-member expert committee will conduct public hearings and draft a land consolidation scheme. The airport aims to handle 100 million passengers annually upon completion.
