The Sri Lankan Navy apprehended nine fishermen from Mayiladuthurai district on Saturday, January 3, 2026, near Kodiyakkarai. The fishermen, who had been fishing off the Nagapattinam coast, were reportedly intercepted for crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). Two mechanized fishing boats were also seized. The arrested individuals were taken to the Kankesanthurai naval base for further investigation. This incident follows the arrest of 11 fishermen from Karaikal on the previous day for similar alleged violations.
