A recent fire at the Mulai Kathoni 2.0 forest regeneration site has prompted the Congress party to demand the cancellation of sand mining licenses in the area. The party alleges the fire was arson, possibly linked to a sand mafia, and claims licenses were granted despite opposition from environmentalist Jadav Payeng. The National Students' Union of India has called for security for Payeng, stating a group set fire to the forest during his absence.
