Experts from international electoral institutions highlighted at an IIIDEM symposium that expanding digitisation in elections increases cybersecurity risks and raises concerns about transparency due to opaque automated systems. They emphasized that electoral bodies must proactively address technological disruptions, noting challenges like reliance on external tech and uneven expertise access. While AI offers benefits such as improved voter facilitation and inclusivity, risks include misinformation, algorithmic bias, and system errors. Separately, TMC MP Saket Gokhale criticized the Election Commission's use of AI in voter list revisions, citing errors affecting millions of voters.
