The Indian government is consulting with ministries and departments regarding the requirements and impact of its lateral entry recruitment policy. Since 2018, approximately 60 individuals, including private sector experts, have been appointed to roles like Joint Secretary and Deputy Secretary. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) is reviewing the scheme's effectiveness. Previously, the UPSC cancelled an advertisement for such posts due to a political controversy over reservation provisions.
