India's flagship rural employment program, MGNREGA, has been restructured and renamed the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin). Key changes include an increase in guaranteed workdays to 125 per household, a shift in funding to a 60:40 Centre-state ratio, and a move towards planned infrastructure projects aligned with national development goals. These modifications have raised concerns regarding the program's core principles of an open-ended, unconditional employment guarantee and increased financial obligations for states.
