Alex Saab, a close ally of former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and a Colombian-Venezuelan businessman previously held in the U.S. on bribery charges, was reportedly detained in Caracas during a joint operation involving Venezuelan and U.S. authorities. Raul Gorrin, a Venezuelan media mogul, was also reportedly detained. While U.S. officials expect Saab's extradition to the U.S., Saab's lawyer and government-aligned journalists have denied the arrest.
